Octomark

Assessment criteria, explained in plain words

Octomark is an app for students aged 11 to 16 and their parents. It shows what each assessment criterion asks for, and how a piece of work reaches the top levels, 7 and 8.

Coming soon for iPhone, iPad and Android.

Who it is for

Octomark is for students in the Middle Years Programme (MYP), in years 1, 3 and 5, and for the parents who help them in the evening. It covers seven subjects and two projects:

  • Language and literature
  • Individuals and societies
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Arts
  • Physical and health education
  • Design
  • Personal project
  • Community project

What is inside

  • A short article for every part of every criterion: what it means, how to do it, two examples of student work, and a common mistake with the fix.
  • Quizzes that show what to practise next, with a link to the right article.
  • Written tasks with a checklist and a model answer, so students can check their own work.
  • Six languages: English, Español, Français, 中文, Deutsch, Русский.

Free, with an optional subscription

All the articles are free, and so is the first question of every quiz. Octomark Plus, a subscription you buy in the App Store or Google Play, opens all the quizzes, the written tasks and progress by criterion. New subscribers get the first 7 days free. The store shows the price in your currency before you buy.

No accounts, no tracking

Octomark has no sign-up, no ads and no analytics. Progress stays on the device, and we cannot see it. This website has no cookies either. The details are in our Privacy Policy.

The teacher comes first

Octomark explains criteria in its own words. It does not mark work or promise grades. Your school's own assessment tables and your teacher's instructions always come first.
